Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, has distanced himself from a presidential campaign poster that has been circulating on social media.
Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, has distanced himself from a presidential campaign poster circulating on social media that paired him with Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State in North East Nigeria.
The banner listed Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, and Prof. Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, as presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively.
The poster was titled ‘Nigeria Project 2023′ and was signed as the Convener by one Abayomi Mademaku.
The campaign will begin on October 2, according to the organisation.
According to Fashola’s communications adviser, Hakeem Bello, the group did not contact him and did not have his permission to issue the invitation.
“The Media Office of the Hon. Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has urged well-meaning people to disregard the invitation of some Groups, purportedly operating under The Nigeria Project 2023, to the inauguration of a Support Group for the Minister and the Governor of Borno State over the 2023 elections,” the statement read in part.
“Normally, the poster and the various social media reports that were almost immediately created on its account would have been dismissed as the product of malicious individuals.
However, this caution was necessary due to two major factors.
“The first was to respond emphatically no to repeated enquiries from right-thinking and well-intentioned Nigerians about whether the Honorable Minister had been contacted or if the Groups had his permission to issue the invitation.
“Without reservation, no individual or group has approached the Honorable Minister in connection with or on behalf of The Nigeria Project 2023. As Honorable Minister, Mr Fashola is currently focused on leading his dedicated Team in the Ministry of Works and Housing to fulfill President Muhammadu Buhari’s mandate for expanded and upgraded road transport infrastructure as well as affordable housing across the country in order to achieve economic growth and prosperity for Nigerians.
“The second point is that entities unaffiliated with a political party are unable to nominate candidates on its behalf. The people and organisations described as promoters of The Nigeria Project 2023 are unknown to the APC and the Honorable Minister, who is a high-ranking and devoted member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In light of the foregoing, the Honorable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, cautions members of the public to be aware of unsolicited people and Support Groups whose true objectives are still unknown. Every conceivable support should be given to the current administration’s efforts to produce a better nation for all under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
