Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential contender for the Peoples Democratic Party, has stated that where Nigeria’s next president hails from is unimportant.
Nigerians, according to Atiku, are unconcerned with who their next President will be, but rather want a leader who would address the country’s problems.
On Thursday, the former Vice President addressed the PDP’s 94th National Executive Committee, or NEC, meeting in Abuja.
Atiku further stated that the decisions made during the meeting would determine whether the party produces the next president of Nigeria.
“The PDP has the right to decide how the party is managed, and Nigerians have the right to decide how the country is governed,” he stated. Nigerians have never had a problem with where the President comes from.
“There is no such thing as a president from the south or from the north of Nigeria.” There is only one – a Nigerian president, elected by Nigerians and for Nigerians.
“When it comes to inclusivity, I’d want to see our party form a new national working committee with a significant number of adolescents and women.”
“The NEC’s decision today will determine whether the PDP is in the mansion in 2023 or not. This party has encountered tremendous obstacles since its beginning, and it has persevered in the face of adversity to overcome those challenges and move forward.”
