The Elders Advisory Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has revealed why former President Goodluck Jonathan is not eligible to run for president on the ruling party’s platform.
Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, the state chairman of the APC Elders Council, indicated that the party already had candidates lined up for presidency.
The former governor of the state made his remarks on Ibadan’s Agidigbo 88.5 FM.
He did say, though, that the former president was free to join the APC, but that he should not consider running for president in 2023.
“I’m not saying Jonathan can’t join the APC, but he won’t be president in 2023 under the APC.
“I’m not saying Jonathan can’t be president,” he continued, “but it can’t be under the APC in 2023 because some individuals are already in line.”
Jonathan has recently been associated to APC.
There are rumors that the former president will defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rumours circulated that if he joined the APC, the Bayelsa-born former president would become the party’s presidential flag bearer.
Jonathan, on the other hand, remains deafeningly silence about the rumors circulating.
Meanwhile, the APC has stated that Jonathan would be welcome to join the party if he so chooses.
