25 dead, 65 people rescued, and 7 missing as Boat Capsizes in Niger State
The inhabitants of Tijani village of Munya Local Government Area of Niger State have been thrown into mourning following the ugly incidence that rocked it’s people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that on Saturday at about 6:00pm, a local boat carrying about 100 people including women and children capsized Midway into it’s two hour journey.
The cause of the tragedy was as a result of an heavy windstorm orchestrated by the evening rain in their locality.
It was alleged that the villages were returning from a local market in Zumba village of Shiroro Local Government Area before they met with that unforseen disaster.
According to reports, 28 bodies were recovered, 65 people rescued while search is still ongoing for the remaining seven.
Mallam Adamu Ahmed, the Sarkin Kasuwan Zumba, while speaking over the loss called for more support, especially in the area of logistics, to speed up the search operation.
He said:.”Some of the victims were going back to the village to go and get some food items and return to Zumba where they were taking refuge as a result of bandits activities in the communities”.
According to him, the victims were mostly IDP from about seven communities, all from that same local government, Munya.
