Anambra Govt. Accuses Andy Uba Of Playing Politics With Insecurity

The government of Anambra State has accused Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of playing politics with the state’s present security situation.

Uba, who had less than 24 hours till his campaign’s planned kickoff in Onitsha, canceled it, blaming it on the current condition of security and stating that it was in honor of Dr. Chike Akunyili, who was recently assassinated by unknown assailants.

However, according to a statement issued by the Anambra State Government’s State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba, Uba’s campaign flag-off, which was scheduled for last Saturday, was canceled after he received word that President Buhari would not be present.

Adinuba said the APC’s press release that the campaign was suspended in honor of Dr. Chike Akunyili was false, and that Uba’s suspension would be the third time since President Muhammadu Buhari refused to attend, and that Uba was frustrated because there were no indications that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would attend as well.

“No society can play politics with its security without serious consequences,” the announcement stated.
This is especially true in a country like Nigeria, which is currently facing its most severe security issues in decades.

“It defies belief that the Anambra State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has spent the last three weeks playing politics with the current security situation in Anambra State in particular and the Southeast in general, despite the fact that other parts of Nigeria are experiencing a greater security crisis.

“As Anambra State prepares for a gubernatorial election on November 6, the APC in Anambra State throws a finger in the direction of the state government whenever violence or murder is reported.
All of this is done as part of the electioneering strategy.”

Because President Muhammadu Buhari oversees the country’s security agencies, Adinuba believes that throwing fingers at the Anambra State administration is tantamount to indicting him.

“President Buhari, not Governor Willie Obiano, is the Nigerian Armed Forces’ Commander in Chief and the leader of the country’s security agencies. The 1999 Constitution, as modified, includes security as an exclusive list of rights.

“Each of the federation’s 36 state governors is only the state’s nominal chief security officer.
No governor has authority over his state’s police force, Department of State Security, or Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), let alone any of the armed forces. Like every other state vigilante agency, the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) is supervised by the state police command.

“The people and administration of Anambra State believe that the state APC is purposefully indicting President Buhari over security breaches. The President’s refusal to attend the party’s gubernatorial campaign flag-off in the state has enraged the party’s leadership, prompting the Andy Uba campaign to change the flag-off three times. Despite this, there are no indications that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be able to attend.

“The Presidency is now fully convinced that there was no primary election or congress held on Friday, June 26, 2021, to nominate the APC candidate in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

“President Buhari, a man of great personal integrity, and Vice President Osinbajo, a prominent preacher, have opted to remain out of the Andy Uba governorship campaign in Anambra State.
They don’t want to be associated with canonizing evil.”

He claimed that the APC’s actions have led most Anambra residents to believe that it is the mastermind of the state’s recent politically motivated killings, claiming that it is the only political party in the state that plays politics with not only security but also politically motivated assassinations.
