APC claims victory in Niger council election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Katcha local government area of Niger state, Honourable Musa Isyaku, has claimed victory in the local government’s election conducted on Thursday last week.

Isyaku stated this in a press briefing in Minna on Monday.

He said, “the results as announced by the returning officer gave APC a total of 9, 423 votes as against the SDP that polled a total of 4,254 votes thereby making APC candidate the winner of the election and has since been duly  declared as by Niger State Independent Electoral Commission ( NSIEC).

He explained that results from three wards of Katerigi, Bisati and Gbakogi were cancelled due to crisis and diversion of ballot boxes.

According to him, the authentic results were announced in Katcha where the election was conducted and not in Minna.

“Let me state categorically that I Musa Isyaku is the only duly elected Council Chairman for Katcha local government during the 2022 local governments election.  I won in the 7 wards out of the 10 wards and polled 9,423 votes under the platform of APC as against the runner up SDP that polled 4,254 votes”.

He insisted that he has the mandate of the people , adding that the mandate has not been withdrawn from him at all.

He dismissed media reports insinuating that the SDP candidate has been announced as winner of the local government election,  adding that there is no official evidence or document to verify such claim.
