Dr Aniekan Makanjuola, a medical doctor, testified before an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Thursday about how a kid (name withheld) was reportedly defiled by Nollywood star Olanrewaju James, alias “Baba Ijesha.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Makanjuola made the revelation while being lead in evidence by the state prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule, during the troubled actor’s trial over claims of defilement.
“Our findings indicated a blunt invasion of the vagina, which was consistent with the client’s experience,” she explained.
Makanjuola is the Head of Clinical Services at Women at Risk International Foundation and a skilled forensic medical examiner (WARIF). She was the fourth prosecution witness to testify.
“We took her to the consulting room, and she told us a history of the events from seven years ago,” she explained. She did not tell her mother about these experiences, but they began to influence her mood and academic performance.
“On April 16, she told her mother’s friend what had transpired, and her mother was alerted.”
We decided to conduct an investigation.
“We found a normal external genitalia, a healed cut on the labia minora at the 3’0 clock position, and a notch at the 6’0 clock position.”
“Based on these findings, my lord, the client was referred to the laboratory for more testing, which included HIV 1 and 2, Hepatitis A and B, Syphilis, and pregnancy, all of which came back negative.”
“She was sent for psychological evaluation, and a report was prepared, authenticated, and forwarded to the SCID.”
Following the revelations, the prosecution presented the referral letter and medical report to the court as evidence. They were admitted as exhibits and labeled Exhibit J and J1.
Makanjuola revealed that WARIF is a sexual assault referral center while being cross-examined by defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN).
She stated that the medical examination was based on the client’s history.
“The healed lacerations imply that the lacerations observed in the genitalia were not recent, my lord,”
Baba Ijesha is charged with six counts of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration.
Damilola Adekoya, nicknamed Princess, the foster mother of the kid, was present in court to see the proceedings.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo delayed the matter until November 5 and 12 for further proceedings.
