Commuters Stranded As Soldiers, Shiites Clash In Abuja

Many commuters were stranded in the federal capital territory (FCT) today as military repressed members of the Nigerian Islamic Movement (IMN).

The IMN members, often known as Shiites, were marching from Mararaba in Nasarawa state to the FCT city when the troops halted them.

The Shiites were thought to be on a symbolic pilgrimage every year.

Because of an army barrier erected to prevent IMN members from entering the FCT capital, many commuters trying to get to their workplaces were stranded.

Soldiers allegedly assaulted Shiite female passengers in a vehicle headed for the city center after they were recognized.

They were then loaded into a van and driven to an unknown location. Some passers-by were also subjected to the soldiers’ harassment.
