The police in Lagos have unfolded new revelations in the unfolding saga of a female policewoman, Corporal Fauzziyah Isiak who burst into social media trends after she tearfully accused the police hierarchy of stopping her from resigning from the force.

Lagos police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a series of tweets on Thursday opened up on the malfeasance associated with the detained policewoman.

According to him, Corporal Fauzziyah Isiak, who serves in the office of the Imam of the Command, absconded from duty for over a month without leave, permission, or discharge from service. As a result of her actions, she was detained for her orderly room trial, which commenced today.

Officer Hundeyin further explained that absence from duty for twenty-one days without leave or permission automatically results in being declared a deserter, which every serving member of the force knows. Corporal Fauzziyah’s absence from work for fifty-three days is, therefore, a severe offence against discipline.

Additionally, Corporal Fauzziyah has been accused of distorting/misrepresenting facts and bringing the name of the force into disrepute, which amounts to another disciplinary offence. She will have the opportunity to explain herself at the trial, after which a decision will be made.

Officer Hundeyin also raised concerns about whether Corporal Fauzziyah followed due process in resigning. According to him, she sent in her resignation letter after going AWOL, which is not tenable. He emphasized that due process must be followed in such cases.
