The debate on the 2022 budget, which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, may be postponed due to defective air conditioners in the House of Representatives chamber.
The Senate had to rush through Tuesday plenary because lawmakers complained about the heat during the session.
Earlier, the Speaker indicated that the House will begin deliberations on the 2022 budget on Wednesday and will adjourn on Thursday for budget defense.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari presented the 2022 appropriation bill to the National Assembly last week.
During today’s plenary, Speaker Gbajabiamila stated that the House cannot debate the money bill without the AC in the chamber working. He directed the clerk of the House to guarantee that the air conditioners were operational by tomorrow.
“Clerk, could you please ensure that the air conditioning here is operational tomorrow?” We need to start debating the budget, which we cannot do under these circumstances. It is critical that it functions properly tomorrow.”
Gbajabiamila also instructed the clerk to write to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory about the building repairs.
