Masked gunmen seized Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith in the Ajah region of Lagos State (retd.).
Musiliu Smith, the current Chairman of the Police Service Commission and former Inspector-General of Police, is Smith’s cousin.
On Monday, masked gunmen rushed the site where the former general, who is now the Chairman of Double Wealth Ventures Limited, a dredging and engineering firm, was purportedly supervising work on a site in the Ajah district of Lagos State, and opened fire.
The kidnappers are thought to have sped away in a speedboat with the retired general.
According to an SOS voice note left by his chauffeur, Corporal Odiji, the retired AVM engaged the gunmen until they were defeated.
Odiji declared, “This is an emergency.” I’m Corporal Odiji, and I’m under Air Vice Marshal Smith’s command. They simply grabbed him from our construction site. My boss has recently been kidnapped by masked gunmen. They were shooting in all directions at the same time. I was near to my boss’s automobile, which I was working on.”
“As I approached, I observed them leaving on a boat, but I wasn’t armed, so I quickly dashed to the location and saw his spectacles and where he was wrestling with them.
Please pass this information on to your friends and family.
It’s a life-or-death situation.”
Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, volunteered to look into the problem and provide a complete response as soon as possible when reached by phone.
