Human Rights Lawyer, Ozekhome Explains Why DSS released Chiwetalu Agu

Mike Ozekhome, SAN, a human rights lawyer, has revealed why the Department of State Services, DSS, freed Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agu.
Ozekhome stated that Agu was released after his phones were examined and nothing incriminating was discovered.
The 65-year-old actor was apprehended by the Nigerian Army last Thursday in Onitsha, Anambra State, for donning Biafra regalia.
Soldiers apprehended him near Upper Iweka Bridge while he was participating in a charity event.
However, Agu was freed by the Nigerian Army on Friday, only to be re-arrested by DSS agents.
The veteran actor was reportedly taken to Abuja for questioning by the secret police.
Ozekhome, on the other hand, claimed Agu had committed no crime that warranted his detention.
He stated this in a signed statement headed ‘Chiwetalu Agu Released By DSS.’
“The chambers had several interactions with DSS officers, who were, however, exceedingly civil and cooperative.”
“Agu was released to Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, Actors Guild of Nigeria) today (Tuesday) evening by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a comprehensive search on his phones revealed nothing incriminating,” he stated.
