New Electoral Commissioner resumes office in Oyo

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Tella, has assumed office in Ibadan with a promise to hold elections that are free, fair, credible, transparent, and acceptable in 2023.

Dr. Tella was welcomed by the administrative secretary of the commission, Alhaji Abiodun Amosun-Onikate, the management team and each of the electoral officers in the state’s 33 local government areas.

Dr. Tella told the commission’s personnel in the state to prepare for the task ahead in order to organize a successful election.

The REC also requested the assistance of each INEC employee in the state, stating that the task required the efforts of all.

Dr Tella, who was moved from Ekiti State to Oyo state, said that the reason for the successful conduct of the most recent governorship race in Ekiti was because of the synergy by all stakeholders who displayed decency, dedication, and transparency.

He promised that the same accomplishment will be duplicated in Oyo State.

Dr. Tella added that the commission had engaged in a lot of activities that would enhance the success of the forthcoming elections.

“For instance, we started from the expansion of voters access to polling units; then, the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), followed by claims and objections.

“Our staff have been engaged in training and capacity building, in line with the international best practices. This will now allow them to even be more proactive on the exercise,” he said.

The Administrative Secretary, Mr Amosun Onikate who responded on behalf of the administration and personnel, pledged complete devotion and cooperation to the new REC. (FRCN)
