Police Confirm Abduction Of Kwara Monarch’s Children, Driver, Others

The Kwara State Police Command verified the kidnapping of five people on their way from Osi to Obbo Aiyegunle in the state’s Kwara South Senatorial District on Friday.

According to the command’s spokesman, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement in Ilorin, the captives include the Olobbo of Obbo Aiyegunle’s chauffeur, simply known as Kunle; the monarch’s security aide, Lawrence Abiodun; and his maid, Bukunmi Akanbi.

Others include the monarch’s twin daughters, Taiwo and Kehinde, who are six years old.

Oba Samuel Adelodun, the monarch, personally reported the incident to the police at around 1830 hours on Thursday.

The five victims were taken by unknown gunmen, according to a police official, while the monarch’s Toyota Sienna minivan, with registration number Owalobo of Obbo Aiyegunle, which was transporting the victims, was abandoned on the route.

“Upon receiving the information, the state Police Commissioner, Amienbo Tuesday Assayomo, dispatched the command’s anti-kidnapping and other tactical units, as well as local hunters, to immediately begin a search and rescue operation in the area for possible arrest of the abductors and safe rescue of the victims,” the statement continued.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to submit important information that could aid in the victims’ timely rescue.

He advised citizens to avoid movements on isolated and lonely routes at odd hours of the day, while assuring the protection of citizens and residents in the state.
