The Ramadan fast still continues as the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar declared Thursday, May 13, as Eid-el-Fitri.
This was contained in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaida, the Chairman Advisory Committe on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto which was released to the public on May 12.
According to the statement Ramadan fast still continues as Wednesday May 12, is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan.
The statement reads:
“The Sultanate Council Advisory Committe on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee did not receive any report from the moon sighting committed across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1442AH
Therefore Wednesday, 12th of May 2021 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1442AH.
The Sultan has accepted the report and accordingly declared, Thursday, May 13 2021 as the first day of Shawwal 1442AH, Day of Eid El Fitri”.
Shawwal is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar which comes immediately after the fasting month.
