Unknown Gunmen Sets DSS, FRSC Offices In Nnewi Ablaze

Unknown gunmen assaulted the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) headquarters in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Sunday.

It was unclear at the time of posting this story whether anyone was injured in either of the two offices targeted, but we did learn that a passerby was hit by a stray bullet.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived in four SUVs from Owerri Road and stopped at Emecourt Road Junction, where they fired bullets, causing passers-by to flee for safety, before proceeding to the premises, which they also burned ablaze.

“They then proceeded to Nnobi Road, passing via the Nkwo Triangle Roundabout.

“An armoured military vehicle appeared later and drove about town, passing down Emecourt Road.
The military and the gunmen did not meet, thus there was no exchange of fire,” the insider stated.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed a fire in Nnewi but refused to name the offices involved.

“At approximately 2 p.m. on the 3rd of October 2021, the command received a distress call of a fire occurrence in Nnewi,” he stated. Police officers are currently on the scene, and the area has been blocked off. He added, “Further details will be supplied.”
