Residents of Yobe State’s Nahuta Community in Potiskum Local Government Area have complained about a six-month power outage.
According to some of them, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, the situation has paralyzed economic activity in the area and living has become miserable owing to the power outage.
Malam Habu Abubakar, a concerned member of the Nahuta community, stated that they had reported the problem of the single transformer supplying energy in the region to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, but no effort had been taken to repair or replace it.
He went on to say that as part of a community effort, people of the community gave N450,000 to fix the transformer, but that this proved futile.
“We were left in the dark, and the situation is seriously impacting the community’s socioeconomic activity.”
“As a result, we are calling to the government, benefactors, and elected Representatives in our area to come to our rescue by aiding the Nahuta Community,” he said.
Garba Abdullahi, a barber who also regretted the situation, stated that the prolonged darkness had harmed his business since April 2021, forcing him to rely on an expensive alternate source of power.
He urged Yola Power Distribution Company, lawmakers, and the Potiskum local government council to come to the rescue of hundreds of business owners like himself who rely on electricity for a living.
Our attempts to contact the Business Manager of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in Damaturu were futile.
